Cultural investment through Newquay BID
For Newquay BID, the funding will enable the creation of three new murals, expanding the town’s already well-established and widely admired mural trail. The trail has become an important part of Newquay’s cultural offer, attracting visitors throughout the year, drawing footfall into less familiar areas and contributing meaningfully to town centre vibrancy. The project has been warmly received by the community and has also gained national media interest.
TRIP funding will also support the introduction of new street banners across the main town centre during the summer months. These will complement Newquay’s much-loved bunting and help enhance the seasonal character of the town.
Mark, Newquay BID Manager, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to have been awarded TRIP funding and to be able to put this towards projects that are already making a real difference in Newquay. The mural trail has been a fantastic initiative, taking people to parts of the town they may never have explored before and creating a real sense of pride and vibrancy. It’s been a pleasure working with the TRIP team, and we’re really pleased to continue developing these cultural projects for the benefit of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
Infrastructure improvements through Newquay Town Council
Newquay Town Council’s share of the funding focuses on long-term infrastructure improvements in the town centre and around the Killacourt. This includes upgraded electrical points and lighting to support future enhancements and a broader range of year-round events, such as summer activities and Christmas celebrations.
At the Killacourt, TRIP funding has supported the installation of a new changing cabin for performers and event organisers, improved CCTV to enhance safety, and essential preparations for the future introduction of Martyn’s Law. Funding has also been used to ensure the safe provision of a festive tree for major seasonal events.
In addition, the programme has delivered a lighting design and feasibility report that will guide future improvements to safety, accessibility and the visitor experience.
Drew Creek, Mayor of Newquay, said:
“As Mayor, I am delighted to see Newquay receive this vital TRIP funding. It represents a powerful partnership between Newquay BID and the Town Council, investing in both our cultural soul and our physical infrastructure. From the stunning murals that tell our town’s story to the critical upgrades on the Killacourt, this funding is about enhancing the experience for everyone who lives in, works in, and visits Newquay. It’s a strategic investment in a brighter, more vibrant, and sustainable future for our community.”
